I finally got around to replacing the volume pot and LFO delay slider using Technology Transplant (chipforbrains) stuff. I also replaced the balance pot. The new ones definitely feel much stiffer than the original Roland sliders and rotary pots.
I took videos of the disassembly and replacement, which will appear on YouTube within a week or so.
I still haven't had a chance to actually fire up the Jupiter and test it out, and I'll probably get to do that tomorrow.
I also ordered a spare of each type of knob. They look identical to the Roland knobs, except that they aren't yellowed at all. |

| Hmm maybe he isn't lubing any of his new pots that's why they're stiff. They should be smooth. |

I noticed the same thing on a set of Jupiter 6 pots and sliders I installed. The 10k and 100k felt different from each other also. A couple of the sliders had stiff spots, which could be annoying.
I haven't heard much criticism of chipsforbrains products so I don't know if just these Jupiter 6 parts are not up to par. |

| The Juno slider caps my friend bought from chipsforbrains weren't up to par either. The hole for the slider tip is too far in so the slider rubs against the panel when you move it. |

I wasn't suggesting that I didn't like the feel of the new pots. It's just different. They contain a stiffer lubricant which will probably become more workable in time.
I actually do like the feel. Chipforbrains says right in his auction that they have "superior feel" to the original components, so you have to expect a difference.

That sucks. I'd probably use a syringe to put a drop of epoxy in the hole, or else return them. Are you referring to Juno-6/60 caps or Juno-106 caps? Interestingly, the 6/60 use the same sliders as the JP-8, and the Juno-106 caps are the same as the JP-6 but in a different colour. |

I sure wish I had more time to devote to music these days. Being a newlywed with a full-time job and a social life is really cutting into my creative process. I am also scheming a couple of midibox projects, and I have bought a couple of defective Juno-106 keyboards to repair and resell. Still, I finally had a chance to evaluate the new pots I installed.
I am very pleased. The volume and balance pots work perfectly. Replacing the LFO Delay slide pot cured my LFO Delay fault (i.e., moving the slider had no effect).
Now that I believe the synth is in as-new condition, I am ready to move on to Europa! |

FWIW, I have a new set of chipsforbrains pots waiting to be installed.
I broke out a pack of them to test for feel. They are nice feeling, smooth and with that quality 'thick grease' feeling. Some of them on first feel has a distyinct stiff spot about 1/3 of the way down. A quick 20 or 30 slides back and forth cleared the stiff spot - must just be where there is more grease. These seem good quality units to replace the originals with, and thank goodness soneone is making them, and at a fair price as well. |

I got some 909 parts from Chip for Brains, and they aren't the same size. The buttons are all lose and fall off, so I've had to use some soft glue to hold them in place. The knobs were too small, or pots too big and they don't go together nicely.
It's workable, but annoying, and there isn't really an alternative. _________________ The Puppeteer
